The United Way of Genesee County has been a major partner of the NMDP Great Lakes office for many years. Through their efforts, they have helped to register over 17,000 potential donors. Of these donors, over 40 have gone on to give the gift of life to a patient needing a bone marrow transplant. The United Way of Gensee County serves the community in so many other ways. My Friends Care started in 1989 as a non profit organization which helps patients battling blood diseases by providing support and expertise to them. This incredible organization helps families raise funds to pay for expensive treatments and provide emotional support for those families as they face the diffculties ahead. The American Red Cross has been a regular supporter of our work in Michigan for many years. They routinely invite us to be a part of blood drives throughout the state. The American Red Cross provides blood products for thousands of patients in Michigan. Patients requiring bone marrow transplants will usually require multiple blood transfusions.
