National Marrow Donor Program - Great Lakes Region Team

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) at Great Lakes Region is part of an extensive network of U.S. and international organizations dedicated to facilitating marrow and blood cell transplants for patients who do not have a matching donor in their family. The NMDP Network brings together the expertise of leading hospitals, blood centers, laboratories and recruiters, making the NMDP a leader in the field of transplantation.

At NMDP Great Lakes Region, our role is to educate the people of Michigan about the need for marrow and blood cell donors and to recruit them to join the more than 6 million others who a have already joined the NMDP Registry. We are grateful for the people of Michigan who have already registered and stand ready to give of themselves for a patient in need.

Each year, more than 35,000 patients could benefit from a bone marrow or blood cell transplant, yet 70% do not have a matching donor in their family. Many turn to the NMDP Registry with the hope of finding a match among the more than 6 million people registered and willing to donate.

NMDP Great Lakes Region has registered more than 160,000 Michigan residents as potential marrow or blood cell donors. Our work has enabled more than 300 patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma and immune disorders to find a matching donor.

We look forward to connecting with new potential donors as they choose to give the most precious gift of all…..a second chance at life.
